Poles Lane Shoot

We went to Poles Lane to do our filming of Poppy walking down the street, first dressed as a prostitute and then as a normal person. We had originally done this on the Wednesday two weeks before however we didn't have the storyboard and made some mistakes.
So on Wednesday 14th we took a minibus up to Poles Lane and started shooting, it only took 20 minutes to film. Overall we were happy with the Poles Lane shoot because it went well and was surprisingly quick.

Shaunagh's and Nicola's House

We had to reshoot our shots and Nicky's and Shaunagh's house because of the bad lighting. We first went to Shaunagh's house because we needed more light for the shots with Shaunagh and Harry. Everything went well at Shauagh's; the lighting, the makeup and the actual filming.

Nicky's house was a bit harder, but not that much harder. Every shot we did went well of the inside however when we went outside for the memorial some problems arose. Everytime we went to light the candles they kept getting blown out by the wind. So we have decided to add in some fake flames when we were doing our editing. Except for the small problems with the memorial candles everything was good and efficient.

Job Role: Cameraman

My job was the cameraman, I had to be responsible for all the camera equipment. I had to help Nicola (director) choose the shots in the scene, depending on whether it will be a high angle or a low angle. In addition to that I had to help Daisy position the microphone so it wasn't in the shot.
I took my ideas from films such London to Brighton, the scenes with Kelly as a lower class prostitute. I also took ideas from the opening of Morvern Callar, where there is a dead body lying on the floor. The darkness in these films helps us with the death of Polly in Honey Bear.

Honey Bear

The chosen film treatment we are doing is Shaunagh's idea, and that is based on a 17 year old girl who lives in Hackney and meets a gangster boy who gets her involved with prostitution and drugs. It is very similar to that of 'This is England' and 'Kidulthood' the title of the film is 'Honey Bear'.
The ideal places for filming the opening would be a run down area or and area which is very dark such as Poles Lane, in addition we would need to film in a cemetery for the flash forward. The sound needed will be key as well because the music has to that which is related to 'Kidulthood' or 'This is England'. Also when the characters are speaking their voices have to related to characters.

District 13 Title Sequence 9 shots

District 13 Title Sequence 9 Shots
This title sequence is from the French action film District 13. It is very good at making you see what the film is going to be about. This is mainly because of the fast moving shots and the violent material used. It shows all the credits well and it uses the camera really well. The music in the sequence is  by the French artist Alonzo but without any lyrics, this is key because as you travel through the city you see different ethnic groups and this goes really well with the music.

Summary of the Key Points of the Documentary "Watching: Beginnings''

Summary of the Key Points of the Documentary "Watching: Beginnings''

Watching: Beginnings is a BBC documentary and it is about the beginnings of films and how it originally started. We watched about how the beginnings of films affect the whole film, we listened to such directors as Danny Boyle and he showed us the beginning of Trainspotting. And he said how you announce your ambition from the first five minutes.
A French director told us about how the interaction between the film and the public makes the film work or not, and in addition to that he said the only way to make a good film then you have to get the audience on your wavelength. This shows you that many directors feel the audience is the real decider about what makes a good film.

Bullet Point Evaluation of Skills

Bullet Point Evaluation of Skills

  • We stuck to our 180 degree rule very well.
  • We did our shot reverse shot very well.
  • We did our match on action very well mainly because Daisy didn't laugh for all of it.
  • We did our eye line matches very well.

Evaluation

We made some mistakes in our first cut such as not following the 180 degree rule and Daisy and Shaunagh's hair kept getting in the way. We weren't happy with our original cut and decided to re-shoot it with Harry and Nicola, they had made mistakes with there eye-line.
So we decided to redo it, we decided to use mine and Daisy's storyboard about the drug deal. That went really well because Nicola directed it and I filmed it while Daisy and Harry were the actors. During this filming Daisy didn't laugh and no one wore any funny costumes.
After we filmed it we edited it and that went really well we managed to get the 180 degree rule correct, fixed the eye line problem and our match on action went really well. We were very pleased with our final cut and managed to get it perfect.
